As you might notice from my social media, I’m not very good at keeping up. But I try to err on the side of putting words down on paper rather than let words out into the interwebsphere. I’m going to try and keep this focus. The goal is to keep a steady writing pace for six months. The amount can vary, but I’m choosing two pages, or 500 words a day.
I’d imagine that I’ll be motivated perhaps 30 percent of the time. The other 70 percent, I won’t be. I will keep my standards of my drafting low. A high writing standard will get in the way sometimes. And I will get a draft down on paper. The point is to write consistently, daily, regardless of my feelings.
Here are the rules I work with (create your own if these don’t suit you):
- Write two pages every day — that’s 500 words — two pages of a crappy first draft. Quantity, not quality.
- Write six days a week.
- Take one day each week off.
- Bank days are allowed. If I have a huge run and put a week’s worth of words down in a single day, I can take the time off, if I want. I can also go HAM (as the kids say), and do more than I’d planned. Author’s choice.
- I will post on ‘X’ after completing my daily goal with the hashtag #twopages2025
- Write two pages a day until the last day of June, 2025.
The rest of the year I will bask in this accomplishment!
